Commercial van and car decals, otherwise known as ‘vehicle graphics’ or ‘transport graphics’, are a hugely underrated method of advertising. Essentially an outdoor sticker applied to the bodywork (and sometimes windows) of a vehicle, commercial van and car decals are an excellent means of getting important information about a brand out there.
They can become strategic advertising tools for both larger-scale fleets and local companies that can display core services and contact information in a highly-visible place, and can be in use for many years.
To take a closer look at how these van and car decals can drive success for brands, read on.
Commercial van and car decals are a highly cost-effective means of advertising. Unlike other options such as billboards or TV adverts, there are no ongoing costs whatsoever. After the upfront cost of the business graphics for vehicles (and the effort of applying the sticker correctly), no effort or spending is required at all.
In comparison to the price of advertising using social media or print media, fleet vehicle graphics are undoubtedly the cheapest in terms of exposure. According to a recent study, while vehicle wrap costs £0.02 per 1000 impressions, Newspaper adverts cost £16.34, and TV adverts cost an eye-watering £20.00! Based on those statistics, it is 1000 times cheaper to decorate your fleet than it is to advertise on TV.
At just a fraction of the cost of larger, temporary signage, commercial van and car decals can advertise your brand on your fleet for years. If you take care of them correctly, they can last for several years without fading or peeling at all.
That being said, car decals and van signage have a distinctively local element to them. You can only drive so far, after all. But this locality can be harnessed to a company’s advantage.
If a person sees your brand on the streets of their home town on a regular basis, they are much more likely to recall your company when they need a service or a set of products. This phenomenon is called ‘brand familiarity’.
How familiar or ‘local’ a brand appears to be can have a huge impact on its customer. According to this study on the topic, ‘brand familiarity increases the probability of a brand being ‘recalled’’ and can “directly mediate choice behaviour”, influencing consumer habits.
So, your fleet vehicles driving around your local area actually increases the likelihood of those nearby trusting and choosing your products and services over others. What’s more, there has recently been a huge push for consumers to ‘stay local’ which feeds into the brand familiarity narrative even more.
Building on the point above, despite their obvious benefits, van and car decals aren’t something that every brand considers. They are still, to some extent, considered an innovative signage solution (in comparison to posters and leaflets) that helps get brands noticed.
One of the best things about fleet vehicle signage, though, is the customisability and the scope for creativity. If partnered up with the right printing and signage company, there are no limitations to what you can produce for your brand. Food and beverage companies, for example, may want enticing product images around the trim of their delivery lorries and vans, while some vehicles are unusually shaped and require custom-cut stickers.
To give you a taste of the variety of options available for vehicle graphics, let’s use one of our own success stories. Previously, we helped CarGuru’s® transform their van signage in honour of their becoming the #1 fastest growing car sales site in the UK. We designed and produced a fully-branded vehicle wrap for the entire transit van (effectively, turning a silver vehicle blue!) and it was featured in their video and photoshoot as a focal point.
